How to Make a Gothic Ring

thdress

Jewelry is an important part of Gothic fashion. Silver colored jewelry is often worn as part of the Gothic fashion style as body piercings, necklaces and rings, and include symbols that are often meant to shock or create a certain effect. Creating your own rings using some of these Gothic symbols allows you to personalize your jewelry and appearance to much more of an extent than purchasing commercially produced jewelry. Choose your favorite representation and create a work of art for others to see.

·  1
Measure the height of a pewter pendant using a ruler. Choose a pendant in a Gothic design, such as a dragon or Gothic cross. Divide the height of the pendant by two to determine the measurement you will need for the ring design.
·  2
Locate the ring size you want on a ring mandrel. Using your measurement of one-half the height of the pewter pendant, place a mark that same distance above the ring size on the mandrel. Place a second mark the same distance below the ring size line.
·  3
Wrap 12- or 14-gauge jewelry wire around the mandrel. Use white-colored jewelry wire such as nickel or sterling silver. Bend one section of the wire down in a V shape to the lower mark on the mandrel using a pair of pliers.

·  4
Repeat, this time bending the wire up in an upside down V shape to the upper mark on the mandrel in the same location of the downward bend. The wires should form a diamond shape at the bent points.
·  5
Snip the jewelry wire with a pair of wire cutters where the end meets the beginning of the wire. Overlap the ends slightly and squeeze with pliers. Remove the wire from the ring mandrel.
·  6
Wrap the ends with 22-gauge jewelry wire several times to secure the wires and hide the cut ends. Snip the wire so it ends on the inside of the ring. Flatten the wire with pliers.
·  7
Hammer the wire with a plastic mallet to harden it. Hammering the wire will make it less likely to lose its shape.
·  8

Apply four drops of bonding glue to the diamond shape at the front of the ring where you want to attach the pewter pendant. Repeat, applying four identical drops to the pendant. Press the pendant onto the ring, following the glue manufacturer’s directions for the correct length of time to hold in place.
